What are safe care options for an unvaccinated puppy when I'm away?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | unneutered | 2 months and 18 days old | 12 lbs

I just got my new puppy, Gunner, a golden retriever who is 12 weeks old. I have to leave for 2 days for work, and was wondering what the safest way to have him taken care of his. I don’t believe he’s had all his shots for parvo, so I’m hesitant to bring him to a normal dog boarder.

Congratulations on your new puppy! Yes, a boarding facility would not be ideal since Gunner is likely not completely vaccinated. That leaves with you a couple options; having a friend or family member house sit/ puppy sit or having a dog walking or dog sitting service stay with him or come in several times a day for walks, feeding, play etc.
