My dog is limping with a painful white bump on paw. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 18.8 lbs

My grandmother had told me when she walked him this morning, he started to limp and lick his foot. So when they got home I inspected it and there was this white bump with a red ring around it. He was biting and licking at and it seemed to put him in a lot of pain. I'm not sure what I should do. I see things telling me to soak his feet and others saying if he's limping take him to a vet. What should I do? I can't even properly identify what it is.

I would recommend bringing Chico to a veterinarian. If you can't get there today then I would put an elizabethan collar on him so he cannot lick at his foot. It almost looks like a possible infection. Your veterinarian will be able to evaluate it better when they examine him. They can also provide medication to make him not painful and if it is an infection. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
