My active dog wheezes lightly only when close. Should I be worried?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 12 lbs

My Chorkie has made a wheezing sound but it’s so light. The only way I could hear him is when he’s laying close tu me. Would this be something concerning? He’s a very active dog, would that be the reason?

Hello, the wheezing could indeed indicate allergies, rhinitis, upper respiratory tract infection or perhaps something associated with her lungs or trachea. If it is very mild and only heard when he is close to you, this may be a variation of his normal breathing. I would monitor for any concurrent sneezing, coughing, or nasal discharge. Other signs could include lethargy and a decreased appetite. If you note any of those, then have Rexxy evaluated by his veterinarian then. Hope this helps and best of luck.
