Why does my crested gecko only eat food from one spot in his cage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

When my crested gecko was at the store, the food was at the bottom of the cage. When I brought him home, tried putting the food around the middle of the cage. Then I tried putting at the bottom. When its at the bottom he eats more than he does at the top (I don't think he ate any when it was at the top). He only likes it on 1 part of the cage in a corner at the bottom. How do I fix this problem? Thanks!

As long as Rio is eating adequately, the location of the pot or bowl is not important. Some Cresties prefer to feed off the ground, others prefer to eat on the ground. If that is his preference, don't change it. Doing so may cause stress and a decreased appetite.
