Is it normal for a dog to sleep all day after being neutered?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Toy Poodle | Male | neutered | 11 months and 2 days old | 13 lbs

My 11 month old dog was neutered on Monday. He eats, poops and pees but he’s been sleeping all day since Monday and it’s already Thursday. He gets excited though when a family member comes home. Is it normal that he sleeps all day?

It can definitely be normal for dogs to be quieter than usual for a few days after a surgical procedure. Moki is probably somewhat sore, and may still be getting some of the anesthesia drugs out of his system. As long as he's eating and drinking normally and still gets excited about the things he normally would, I wouldn't be overly concerned. Most dogs are back to normal by 7-10 days after surgery.
