My dog broke his toe, will he walk normally again after healing?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 7 years and 9 months old | 27 lbs

Will my Dog walk normal again? I have a 26-27 pound terrier mix. He accidentally broke his toe (we don't know how it happened). He has splint (?) bandages on his leg. My ONLY concern is will he walk normal again when the bone is fully healed? I've heard so many horror stories when a dog breaks their bones/legs, they're unable to walk normal again (limping). x ray photos attached. From what I understand the broken bone only occurred in his last (first?) toe. Thank you

Yes he should make a full recovery from that injury. It is not a weight bearing surface since it has the other toes to help. Once a callus is formed and the splint is able to come off, then he will limp while he gets range of motion back in the foot, then will walk normal
