Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female

My budgie Jimmy has been breathing heavily recently and has bobbing Yale when breathing. He has been sitting with his head leaning forward and a bit more keen position.

I'm sorry to hear Jimmy isn't feeling well. Heavy panting, difficulty breathing, or gasping for air are all serious symptoms and very concerning. It would be best to seek veterinary care ASAP especially if he is having difficulty breathing. Moving him to someplace cool and shaded as well as kept quiet and dark may help if the panting is caused by heat or stress, however if he continues to pant, seeking care is needed.

Thanks for reaching out about Mr. BB. By the description, a respiratory infection is possible. Difficulty breathing can also be due to enlarged abdominal organs, making inspiration difficult. A veterinary visit is recommended. Providing heat support can give some comfort but is not a treatment. Good luck.
