My yorkiepoo is on antibiotics for an upper respiratory infection now for a week. She is trying to cough stuff out but it's stuck and she just chokes instead. She breaths rapidly before the coughing starts and after. Other than a hot shower running is there anything else I can do to break up the congestion? My father had lung issues and I remember doing pounding lightly on his back to break up the congestion. Where would I do this on my Laila?

Light pounding on the sides of the chest in her case could help releasing the phlegm, there are also medications such as codeine and terbutalin that can help but you will need to get them from your vet as they are prescription only.
