Hi, I have had my pug puppy for little over a week now, she is 9 weeks 3 days old, she has puppy diarrhea and has done since she has gotten here a week ago. The owner had given us food for her which she was already one and told us to gradually Wien her onto the dry food, so we have been mixing the wet food with dry, this is not a sudden diet change I don't think, is it normal for her to have diarrhea or should we take her to see a vet?

Poor pup! No, it's not normal for her to have diarrhea, especially if it's been going on for a week now. I would be concerned that she may have an intestinal parasite of some kind, or possibly an infection causing the diarrhea. I would recommend taking her to the vet today if you can for an exam - he/she can do a fecal exam to check for parasites or other problems, and will prescribe appropriate medication to treat the diarrhea depending on what is found.

This maybe stress induced from a new environment and routine changes. It can be food related if the food was changed from each house. You can add a probiotic to the diet to help and add boiled chicken and rice. If he is eating and drinking fine, no vomiting and playful then you can what until your appointment. If you notice blood in the stool then I would I take him sooner

Thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Diarrhea is concerning when occurs in a puppy as it can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The fact that she is otherwise feeling well makes something like intestinal parasites more likely. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have Ellie evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start her on anti-diarrhea medications. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your girl!

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your puppy. I would have her seen by her veterinarian today. That is a lot of diarrhea for her to have and I worry she will become dehydrated from the fluid loss. She will likely need fecal testing and a medication depending on the results. Ensure she drinks plenty of water in the meantime. I hope this information helps!
