Is it normal for my female finch to bite when I clean her cage?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Bird | Unknown - Bird | Female | unspayed

My Finch tries to bite me whenever I take her out of her cage and clean or refill anything in thier cage and the male doesn't do that. Is this the case with all female zebra finches or is there something wrong, if so can the issue be specified please.

She may be stressed or territorial of her cage. This doesn't happen with all finches. As long as she is eating and drinking normally, this is likely her personality. It may change with more frequent handling and interaction.
