How can my 15-year-old become a vet with no prior experience?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male

I need as much help as I can get. I want to be a vet. Any suggestions on what I should do? I'm 15, nearly 16 years young! Never done practical work, or any animal care (professional). Is it difficult? Should I make a plan b on career choices?

You should talk to your vet about volunteering in the clinic. Vet offices often need help, and you're at a perfect age to start learning about how to take care of animals. You should also work very hard in school, get all A's, and apply to a good college with a good science program. There are only about 30 vet schools in the US, so competition is very fierce. Be sure to study hard and get as much experience working with animals as you can.
