My dog keeps throwing up and won't drink. When should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Female | spayed | 40 lbs

My friend's Golden Retriever started throwing up out of the blue and can't keep down food or even water and we are all super worried about her, if I could get a response ASAP that'd be great

As Redwing is unable to tolerate water I would recommend making an appointment to see your veterinarian as soon as possible so that they may take a full medical history and perform a full physical examination and provide appropriate medications. They may also suggest performing blood tests or even X-rays.

occasional vomiting is common but if it persists longer than 72hours, he refuses food for more than 48hours or refuses to drink/vomits water back p after drinking at any stage he should be seen by your vet as soon as possible. Blood and urine tests should be considered to rule out medical cases if there has been recent weight loss or increasing thirst
