Is it normal for my dog to bump into things with a cone after neuter?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 8 months and 13 days old | 8 lbs

Hi, i have a question regarding my dog's behavior after neutering. I have bee reading lots of articles but none seem to answer my question. He has become really insecure. He doesn't walk straight and just sort of shuffles everywhere at really fast paces. I think this might be because he is wearing an Elizabethan cone but he just charges to the point of him smashing into everything. Is this normal?

Yes, this is normal. Dogs hate wearing the Ecollar, and often show behavior changes due to it. They don't have spatial awareness with an Ecollar on, and frequently bump into things and walk differently. Once he is allowed to have the Ecollar off, he should return to normal :-)
