My 6-month-old puppy isn't eating much but is still playful. Why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shar Pei | Female | spayed | 6 months and 14 days old | 40 lbs

Doesn't want to eat. If she eats, she eats very little. Normal serving is 1 1/3 cup. Normal behavior playing and running. Drinks normal amount of water. Her weight is 23.6 pounds. What should I do?

I see that Hazel is around six months of age. It could be that she is teething, and it is painful for her to eat. You can try offering her wet food, or you can soften her dry food by soaking it in gently warmed low sodium beef or chicken broth, or warm water. I would try these methods first, and if she still isn't eating a lot, then I would take her into the vet for an exam.
