My cat's leg hurts after vet visit for knee issue. Should I go back?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed

I took my cat (1 year old) to the vets yesterday and he said it looks like her knees are growing at a weird angle so it is causing it to slip out of place. He did a physical check and just said fingers crossed it doesn't get worse. I took my cat home and she ended up having a rough hour where she wouldn't put no weight on it again and she was hissing and meowing very loudly. She's now been asleep in the same position for most of the night, does she just need rest? Should I go back?

Poor Zest! It's not uncommon for some pets to be sore following an orthopedic exam due to the poking and prodding that's necessary, so it may be that she had some pain in her knee because of this when she first got home. Since she's sleeping now, I would leave her alone for the rest of the night and see how she is in the morning. If she's still limping or acting painful at that time, I would take her back in for a recheck - your vet can make sure that nothing else is wrong, and also prescribe some pain medication for her for the next few days if needed.
