My dog licked a small amount of chocolate syrup. Should I be worried?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Miniature Schnauzer | Male | neutered | 1 year old | 14 lbs

My 1 yr old mini schnauzer who weighs 14lbs, got into my bowl of ice cream that had chocolate drizzled on it...it was just the hersheys syrup...I believe he only lapped about 3 or 4 mouth fulls on his tongue. he didn't take a bite at all so I don't think he got much...should I be worried? My guesstimate it was less than 1 oz..might have been a 1/2 oz.. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you for your time!

Glad to help you! Thank you for giving me Doug's weight and approximate amount of chocolate he ate. With his weight and the amount he ate, you will see minimal to no reaction. There is a potential for an upset stomach, but it's not likely, and Doug should be just fine :-)
