My cat's eye is cloudy. Can I reuse old eye drops to save a vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 7 months and 28 days old | 5 lbs

So a month or two ago my cat (about 8 months old now) had one of her eyes start clouding up, and my vet perscribed eye drops that cleared it up in about a week. Now her other eye is starting to do the same thing, just not as bad. I was just wondering if i can use some of the left over eye drops to try and clear it up without paying for another vet visit. Thanks!

Using this medication again depends on the expiry date of the medication, and the specific medication Maggie was prescribed. Some medications have a very short shelf life, and need to be thrown out after use. Because I don't know this information, I can't say if it's safe to use this medication again on Maggie, so I recommend giving the vet who prescribed it the first time a call to see if they feel it's safe for you to use it again.
