Sweet potatoes are not toxic to dogs, so I would not normally expect this to cause any problems apart from some GI upset if she isn't used to eating human food like this. So your pup will probably be just fine :)

    Sweet potato pie should not be toxic but could cause some stomach upset. If your dog vomits more than once or has frequent watery diarrhea you may need to see your veterinarian for treatment. Your dog may also be perfectly fine.

    HI, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Sweet potatoes in moderation are not a problem. Your dog should be fine. I would hold off feeding her for 12 hours then feed as normal. Do not let her drink to much water-just sips. Watch her for an upset tummy (vomiting, lethargy and diarrhea). I hope this helps!

My dog ate a small piece of pumpkin pie. What are the effects or should I be worried?
Hi there and thank you for using pet coach to address your concern. Pumpkin pie is generally not considered toxic as long as xylitol is not used in the pie for sweetening. I would expect side effects such as diarrhea and vomiting. I would feed a bland diet of chicken and rice if these signs develop and feed for at least 3 days past the resolution of the vomiting. My 6 month old Shepard mix ate about half a raw sweet potato not sprouting, seems responsive and to have tore off most of the skin to get to the middle, is acting fine how concerned should I be
Hello, and thank you for your question. Raw sweet potato should not be toxic to dogs. However, it is likely not easily digestible, and so may cause diarrhea. Another concern I would have is whether Kira ate a large chunk of the potato which may cause an obstruction in her stomach or intestines. For now, I would continue to monitor her. You can try offering her small, frequent meals of a bland diet such as boiled chicken and white rice. This may help alleviate any GI upset. If she starts vomiting or becomes disinterested in food, or if her diarrhea does not improve within 1-2 days, I would get her to the vet. They can assess for a possible obstruction through physical exam and x-rays, and at minimum provide supportive medications to help get her feeling better quickly. Hi there! Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Jay Junior is likely going to be just fine if it was just a small amount. This may cause him mild stomach upset which may result in diarrhea perhaps. Otherwise, he should be ok. Try to avoid this in the future. Good luck!

Oh boy, Jessie! Well, there is nothing toxic in pie as long as you didn't add any artificial sweeteners. That said, that amount of sugar, fat, etc. may cause stomach upset.. vomiting or diarrhea. I would feed only a small meal for the next meal, and let the stomach rest. Watch for problems and see your vet if you notice any issues.

HELP!! MY Dog Got A Peice of potato and ate it it was raw it had a little peeling!
No worries. Potatoes and the skin are not toxic to pets, even raw. Maddie should be just fine. At the worse she may have a little upset stomach, in which case you can give her some bland chicken and rice or cottage cheese for a few days and she should be back to normal in no time. Take care of that little one!

Hello, my dog just ate a small slice of pumpkin pie from Costco while I stepped away from my desk. She is a 12 week old Wirehaired Pointing Griffon. Should I be concerned? Is there anything I should do?
I am sorry that Shelby has eaten your slice of pie, but I would not be overly concerned. I have looked up the ingredients in Costco’s pumpkin pie recipe and there does not seem to be any toxic ingredients. Nutmeg can be toxic for dogs, but it does not appear to be in their recipe. Because it is only one small slice Shelby should be fine, however, pie has a large amount of sugar and fat in it and this may cause some gastrointestinal upset. to help prevent this I would advise the following; Rest her stomach for 6 hours by withholding a meal Then provide a bland diet of boiled chicken breast skinless and steamed white rice. If you notice and vomiting, diarrhoea or discomfort she may have developed pancreatitis which is a common condition when dogs ingest a large amount of fatty food. This is unlikely however, if you suspect it please post a further question here on the forum or take her to see her veterinarian. Best of luck and thank you for suing Boop by Petco.

I would like to know if cats can eat dried sweet potatoes. My cat ate a small piece (about 1 cm) and I'm not sure if sweet potatoes cause indigestion. Thank you!
There are no toxicity concerns with sweet potatoes in cats, With any new food, some animals that may have a sensitive digestive tract may have GI upset including diarrhea and vomiting. With this small of an ingestion I think it unlikely but would monitor for these signs and if they persist seek veterinary care.

My dog ate 1/2 of a slice of peanut butter pie which has a chocolate gram cracker crust. Is it a problem?
Bubba will probably be fine as that is not a toxic dose of chocolate. He may have mild stomach upset from the sugar/fat in the food so watch for vomiting and diarrhea. If that occurs sometimes a bland diet for a few days is helpful but rarely a veterinarian visit is needed if it doesn't resolve on its own within a day or two.

Pilot ate a raw potato I’ve heard they aren’t supposed to have those!! What’s the worst that can happen he didn’t ate very much
Hello, Pilot should be fine as long as the potato wasn't moldy. Some molds may cause disorientation, seizures, and heart arrhythmias but this is most commonly seen in large animals. The potato may also cause some GI signs such as vomiting, diarrhea, or vomiting. If you note any of the above then have him evaluated by a veterinarian immediately. Otherwise, you can continue to monitor him at home and keep any other potatoes away from him. Hope this helps and best of luck.
