My 6-month-old Shar Pei looks skinny. Is 23 lbs a healthy weight?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shar Pei | Female | spayed | 6 months and 12 days old | 40 lbs

She weighs 23 pounds. She's a 6 month old sharpei. Is her weight normal or should she weigh more? She does look kinda skinny. I feed her 1 1/3 cups of food twice a day.

A fully grown female Shar Pei should weight between 40-55 pounds, so at six months of age, she should be weighing around 3/4 of her adult weight. Given her weight now, I would say that she may be underweight, but without seeing her in person, I can't say for sure. I would recommend taking her into the vet who can let you know if she is too skinny. I would make sure that she is being fed a puppy formulated food, as she needs more calories, protein, and calcium in order to grow.
