My cat has scratched open sores from flea allergy. Vet or clean?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat has had an allergy to flea bites. Where she had scabs, she has scratched them off and has several open sores. They are not big and aren't weeping, so should I let them heal naturally or clean them with something like hibiscrub, or will she need vet care?

If they are not very deep and only small wounds, I would recommend to clean them with diluted hibiscrub twice daily until completely healed. Flea allergy must be treated and fleas as well. A combination of steroids and flea treatment is usually needed. A vet care is not needed if in 3-4 days the wounds are healing. If not, antibiotics may be needed.
