My 4-month-old female cat is screaming at night. Is she in heat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 5 lbs

So my cat, Ivory, is a 4 month old little girl and she's an angel. Hasn't been any trouble since I adopted her but since the past few days she has been screaming a lot. Not just meowing but loud throaty screams. This mostly happens at night. She eats well, poops well and is quite normal at other times. The thing I noticed last night was a big cat was right outside our window. Ivory was going a bit crazy too. I don't really know if her shouting brought the cat close or she was shouting due to him

Ivory is in heat, this is going to carry on pretty much all the time until you get her spayed. It usually starts around the age of 6 months but some cats come into heat at 4 months as well. Make an apointment with your vet to get her spayed as soon as they can.

Yes, it is possible that your cat is going into heat early, as the signs you are describing are indicative of a heat cycle. At four months of age, she is not too young to be spayed and I would recommend having her seen by a vet to get her spayed as soon as possible so you can get some sleep!
