My old dog has bloodshot eyes and cataracts. What should I do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Golden Retriever | Male | 11 years and 10 months old | 88 lbs

My 11 year old dog had blood shot eyes. He has cataracts in both eyes and is nearly blind. He's been to the vet recently and there were no issues at the time. He's had "pink eye" a number of times before. I'm wondering what I can do to help. He doesn't seem to be in pain.

This symptom most likely indicates an inflammation or an infection, as his eye are already in a bad shape I would not recommend waiting with this issue or trying home remedies, he needs prescription eye drops- take him to your vet to get it treated.
