My senior dog has a painful ear growth with hair. What should I do?

My dog has a little wart like growth on the inside of his ear. There is hair growing directly out of it. He doesn't like me to touch it or fool with it which makes me think it hurts him. Hes an 11yr old standard daschund. Pet's info: Dog | Dachshund | Male | neutered | 11 years and 9 months old | 19.2 lbs
