What should I do for my dog's weeping collar sore before the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed

I found a weeping sore under my dog's collar on 12/17, no pus just clear exudate and rubbed off fur. Put Neosporin on it for about 4 days and have left collar off. Yesterday I noticed it was weeping again slightly and the area is damp and not regrowing hair. Called the vet this morning for appt, none available til next week. Suggestions? Concerns about waiting?

Waiting an entire week seems like a long time, especially if she has an infection. It might be a good idea to call another vet and see if she could be seen before next week, especially if it starts to look worse or she starts acting sick.
