My 2-month-old puppy sleeps a lot. Is this normal puppy behavior?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Is it normal for puppies to sleep a lot? I have a two month old puppy who naps frequently. I don't think he's lethargic because when he is awake he plays and explores the house but I just want to make sure that this is normal.

Yes, it is normal for puppies this age to sleep a lot - they play hard and nap hard, just like babies :) As long as he is playful and active when he's awake, and he's eating and drinking normally with no other problems, I wouldn't be concerned.

That could be completely normal and I would not be worried at all. Puppies may spend most of the day sleeping and alternate that phase to a another one of crazy activity. Please do not hesitate to contact us again on the forum or by requesting a consultation (where you can post pictures ) if you have any more questions or to discuss it any further.

It is concerning, as you'd want to see times where Kilo is playing and active. While puppies can sleep up to 18-20 hours a day, sleeping all day is not normal. This can be a sign of a medical illness. I'd take him into a vet in the morning for a health check. Best of luck.
