My dog is dazed, stumbling, and peeing after waking. Is it seizures?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 1 month old | 70 lbs

My dog, Roscoe 4.5 years old a mutt of lab and something else and fairly large was acting weird whenever he woke up. He has these 'spells' where he would wake up and seem to not know how to properly use some limbs. He'll run into things and trip and he'll walk in this dazed state anywhere from 5 to 30minutes. HIs pupils are dilated and tail is in between his legs. It's happening 2-3 times or during excersize sometimes. Last night he woke up screaming, running and peeing' as if he was in a dream.

It's a bit hard to say, but this sounds like seizure activity, especially with the periods of confusion you're describing after the episodes occur. In a 4 year old dog I'd be concerned about epilepsy, although other possibilities such as a poisoning and brain tumors should be considered as well. Roscoe needs to see his vet ASAP in order to find out what is going on, and start treatment. If these are seizures, the longer they go undiagnosed and uncontrolled, the more likely he will have one that he won't come out of. Get him seen ASAP.
