My puppy has itchy yellow flaky spots. Could it be allergies or mites?

Hi! My name is caitie, and I've recently got a chocolate lab puppy. She is 4 months old and has developed patches of yellow flaky spots all over pack. Some spots feel like scabs. There's no bleeding but she's constantly itchy. I'm wondering if it's a food allergy or mites?

Hi Caitie! You're right that this skin problem could certainly be caused by either food allergies or skin mites (mange). Other possible causes would include an allergy to something in the environment, or a bacterial or fungal skin infection. Treatment for each of these problems is different, so it's important to get a diagnosis in order to know how to help Finley. I would recommend taking him to a vet as soon as you are able to - he/she can do some simple skin tests to help determine the problem and get him started on appropriate treatment.
