My male Doberman is suddenly peeing indoors. Is it a UTI or behavior?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Doberman Pinscher | Male | neutered | 78 lbs

my doberman has begun to urinate almost daily into my female dogs kennel. we separated the kennels in case it was a territory thing (she is unfixed). his kennel is currently in my shower so that if he does urinate it doesn't matter. he has never done this with me before, but he has been returned to the shelter before for peeing problems. why the sudden change in behavior after months of good behavior? is it possible he has a UTI? how can i tell?

It's possible that Atlas responding to her hormones, even though he is neutered. However, yes, he could have a urinary tract infection, although they tend to be a bit uncommon in male dogs. The only way to tell for sure would be to have your vet run a urinalysis, and that is absolutely the first thing you should do, since Atlas will need antibiotics if that is the case. He could also have bladder stones, or less likely a prostate problem. Get him checked out ASAP.
