Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 11 months old | 2 lbs

Mother cat only wants to eat wet food. My cat is nursing 5 kittens of 3 weeks old, and since she gave birth, she is reluctant eat dry food, and I've fed her wet food since then. But wet food are so much more expensive, my college student budget can't keep up with the queen's wet food demand. How do I encourage her to eat her dry food? Also, if she eats wet food everyday, she has very loose tool, a lot of it.

Sapi should be eating kitten food, as she needs the extra calories, calcium, and protein to sustain feeding kittens. I would try mixing the dry kitten food in with the wet food, you could soak her dry kitten food with low sodium beef or chicken broth to make it more tempting for her, you could soak her dry kitten food with tuna juice, or you could mix in some boiled white meat chicken (no bones) with the dry kitten food in an attempt to get her to eat it.
