Why does my German Shepherd bark at strangers on walks? Is it normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | German Shepherd | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 1 month old

Do all German shepherds do like this or only bruno does whenever I'm on walk if some stranger passes by closely from us he then try to catch and if some stranger stop &talks to me he starts barking so is this behaviour normal or other breeds like Doberman and Rottweiler also does like this ? Rest bruno walks normally sometimes pulls me actually I am planning to adopt another puppy but I m confused whether I'll manage to handle along with bruno or not I am not confirm what breed shall I go for

German Shepherd Dogs are one of the guarding breeds, but Bruno should only go into protection mode when there is an actual threat to you. A benign stranger passing by is most likely not a threat. He needs some training in leash walking and ignoring non-threats. I would enroll him in a good obedience class as soon as possible. I would not recommend your getting another puppy until you have Bruno under control.
