Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 16 years and 1 month old | 9 lbs
Hi! My 16 years young female, spayed cat has been throwing up everyday but she still has the same energy level and she is still drinking water, playing with her toy, etc. no other differences. We were feeding her the brand Simply Nourish for Seniors. The pet store switched her to Simply Nourish Adult Heakthy Weight because of the lower protein. Is there any other food that would be better for our Sashie please? Ty sooooo much!! Jodi

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. With Sasha's age and the consistent vomiting, I am concerned that she may have something systemic going on. Quite commonly I see kidney disease in older cats and this can cause consistent vomiting. There are also other conditions such as GI inflammatory disease that can lead to persistent vomiting like you are seeing. My best recommendation would be to have a veterinarian examine Sasha and have her blood tested to start with. This will help rule out multiple potential causes of what you are seeing. I hope this helps guide you in the right direction and that everything ends up ok with Sasha. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any other questions or concerns and I would be more than happy to help you further.

I would recommend that you have Sasha checked out by a vet. First, not all older cats need a lower protein diet. If she does of kidney disease, there are prescription diets that will have an appropriate amount of protein that will help protect her kidneys but still give her the nutrition she needs as an aging cat. There are many things that can cause vomiting despite being otherwise normal, including food allergy, eating too fast, GI blockage, intestinal parasites, IBD, intestinal lymphoma, hyperthyroidism, systemic disease (liver, kidney, pancreas, diabetes), among others. A vet will do a thorough physical exam and medical history review. They will likely recommend bloodwork and a urinalysis to see what is going on internally and check out all of her major organ systems. Then they can discuss appropriate measures to help with the vomiting.

I would take Simone into the vet. It's not normal that she is vomiting every day, and this could be a sign of a medical illness such as kidney disease, diabetes, or hyperthyroidism. I recommend having a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis done on her. I'd give her vet a call today to make her an appointment. Best of luck.
