My 4-day-old puppies aren't pooping. Is this normal or constipation?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 1 year and 4 months old | 33 lbs

Any signs that newborn puppies (4 days old) are constipated? Mama dog gets upset if you hold her pups for too long (she only allow us to move the pups, not hold more than 3 sec.) Also, she refuse to leave them. She wont go out if we dont bring the pups with her. Worried about the pups since mama dog only licks them for about 5 secs and dont see any poop coming out from pups. Is it normal? Brought them to vet yesterday, was told that pups' temp, heartbeat & poop are fine but am still worried. Tnx

Mom kicks them to stimulate then to go and invest all urine and fecal material. You generally won’t see it until they get a little older or she backs off taking care of them. If they are eating and growing then she is doing a good job and I would not worry
