What flea collar do you recommend for dogs: natural or chemical?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 30 lbs

Hello, I am wondering what type or brand of flea collar you would recommend for dogs? Additionally, would you suggest flea collars with natural based ingredients, such as resin power and citronella or collars what utilize active chemical ingredients such as imidacloprid and flumethrin? Thanks in advance for any help.

If you'd like to use a flea collar, I'd recommend Seresto. It's a good brand of flea collar, and while I personally do not like flea collars, it's one of the few I'd recommend. I do not like flea collars because I find them to be less effective than a spot on treatment, and they can and do cause skin irritation and rash. Flea collars with natural ingredients do not work at all, and I never recommend them. You need one with chemical ingredients to kill the fleas. If you are interested, I can give you the treatment program I always recommend. First, I would give Sam Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash his bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. Good luck, I hope this helps!
