My dog has swollen bumps and a swollen eye. Should I see a vet now?

My dog usually gets small swollen bumps around his body but I never knew what caused them. They eventually go away so I didn't worry. Last night he had a small bump on his upper right eye. This morning he had a swollen eye. Should I take him to the vet?

It could be that Lovey is suffering from an allergic reaction causing these swollen bumps around his body. It could be an environmental allergy causing these bumps, but without seeing him in person, I can't say for certain. I am concerned he now has a swollen eye, as he could have injured his eye or have an eye infection. To answer your question, yes definitely take him into the vet today. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it is considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. It is difficult to appreciate the bump under his eye here, but perhaps there is some swelling. I would be concerned about a possible allergic reaction or infection. If he is gagging and moving his head abnormally these are concerning signs and could indicate he is having trouble breathing, which can occur with allergic reactions and would be considered an emergency. I would recommend getting him to the vet as soon as possible.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Berkley. He may be experiencing an allergic reaction. It could be to something in his diet (even if nothing new has been introduced) or environment. If he experience severe facial swelling or difficulty breathing, then he will need to see an emergency veterinarian today. Otherwise, he should see his regular veterinarian tomorrow to determine if this is the case and if he needs treatment. I hope this information helps!

This is probably due to an allergy, although it could also be infection or mites. First of all, in order to rule out skin parasites, you will need to treat with a high quality parasite treatment, then ask the vet to perform a skin scrape - this might reveal an infection or a mite infestation. If all of those came back negative, the next step is to treat the allergy symptomatically and try to discover the cause of the allergy. Three main type of allergies are usually affecting pets: food allergies, flea and parasite related ones and environmental type (allergens coming from trees, pollens, dust etc etc). Some medications can be given by the vet in order to repair any possible skin lesions (like steroids and antibiotics). Dogs eyes are randomly swollen hes acting completely normal
Oh my, poor Lamar! I can certainly see the prominent swellings of both of his eyelids. One of the most common causes of eyelid swelling is from an allergic reaction. The tricky part with allergic reactions is that we often aren't able to figure out the trigger - whether he may be reacting to an insect or spider bite, pollens outside, or countless other things. However, since it looks as though Lamar is missing a good bit of hair around his eyelids (although this could also be pigment change and some glare in the picture), other possible causes could be infectious issues, like mange. Certainly other skin lesions or itching would make this scenario more likely. Since it's most concerning that he's possibly experiencing an allergic reaction with swelling on his face, you really should take him to an emergency vet right away for evaluation and treatment. Some allergic reactions can progress to anaphylaxis, which can cause severe breathing difficulties. I hope that he's feeling better soon!

It could be allergic reaction - it often starts at the eye(s) and face in dogs. You should apply a cold compress on the eye for a few minutes. Repeat that for 3-4 times. The swelling should slowly go down and dissapear in 8-10 hrs but if it is getting worse, or he wants to scratch the eye, please take Bleu to your local vets.

My dog has swelling around his eyes and bumps on his face. What is wrong with him? Are these allergies?
If this happened within a few hours, then allergies would be my first suspicion. However, it appears that there are areas of hair loss around the eyes and on the face. If this has been more gradual (like in the span of a week or more), then my top suspicion is demodectic mange. This is a microscopic mite that is normally found on the skin and can get out of control in certain conditions. You will have to take Koho to the vet in order to get this diagnosed and adequately treated. These conditions are usually quickly diagnosed and we can normally get a diagnosis and treatment plan at the first consult. I hope that helps and Koho gets better soon.

Poor Levi.....his eyelid is really swollen! Since the bumps just appear they could be hives from some type of allergic reaction. Since his eyelid so so swollen and red, it would be a good idea to have him examined by a vet for treatment. An anti-histamine and corticosteroid may be needed to help. Hope he gets better soon!

This is concerning and could be due to conjunctivitis as you pointed out though other possibilities such as a foreign body reaction, corneal ulcer or laceration or even inflammation of the periocular structures could also be going on. Regardless, this does warrant a visit to your veterinarian as soon as possible as he is likely painful. They would be able to examine his eye closely and start therapy based on findings. Took alpha walking and his eye is swollen
Poor Alpha! The most common reasons for swollen eyes are bee strings/bug bites or an allergic reaction (of which you generally never know the cause). Trauma or something stuck in the eye could also cause swelling in the area. Carefully check the area for any stingers or marks. You can apply a cold (not cold) compress to the area. Unfortunately, unless you find a stinger, you won't know the cause. You must also protect the area from rubbing with an elizabethan collar since rubbing could make it worse. I recommend to play it safe and have Alpha examined by the veterinarian today. The doctor will check the eye as well as look for clues as to the cause. If an allergic reaction is suspected, he will likely receive an injectable antihistamine and possible a steroid or anti-inflammatory. Just like with humans, some pets may experience an anaphylactic reaction. Monitor your dog for signs of an allergic reaction, such as difficulty breathing, general weakness or a progression of swelling. If y

Hi there and thank you for using Boop by Petco to address your concern. Based on the photo, the swelling could be from a number of things. This could be from an insect bite / sting, an infection or a cyst. Since this just showed up in the last 24 hours, the likelihood of this being a cyst is small. I would say this is more likely from an insect bite / sting. I would recommend applying a warm compress to the area (warm water washcloth) several times a day and consider giving Benadryl.
