My Siamese cat has crusty ears and UTIs. Could it be food allergies?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Siamese | Male | neutered | 10 years and 5 months old | 15 lbs

Within the last year, my Siamese has gotten complicated. Vet visits haven't helped. Beginning of last year, he kept developing UTIs. The only way I solved it was completely switching to wet cat food. Nothing else worked. Now, he has super crusty ears. Vets determined not mites twice. They say his ears are just "over-active". Is there anything else that can be causing these issues with him? He has permanent respiratory damage from an infection when I got him from the pound almost 9 years ago.

It is possible he may have a sensitivity to the wet food, i recommend changing to a hypoallergenic wet food such as royal canin hypo for 6-8weeks. Also using an alcohol free cleanser regularly may help reduce build up
