My 10lb Havanese ate a prenatal vitamin with iron. Will he be okay?

10lb Havanese ate one Nature’s Made prenatal vitamin with dha. There is 27mg iron in that. He seems uncomfortable. Will he be okay?

Oh no, that's not good that Atticus at one of your prenatal vitamins!. A toxic dose of iron is considered to be greater than 20mg/kg. He weighs 4.55kg, so he would need to ingest 91mg of iron to have a toxic reaction. Given that he has eaten only one pill and therefore ingested 27mg. this is not enough to cause toxic symptoms. That being said, it can cause GI upset, and it can take a couple of days for these signs to appear. You may see vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, and/or anorexia. If you see any of those signs, withhold food for 12-24 hours, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in his normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, he vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, he will need to see a vet right away. Since she only ate 1 pill, I would not be worried about toxicity. The doses in the vitamins for each of the components should not be harmful. You may see some GI signs such as poor appetite, vomiting or diarrhea, but should resolve. If symptoms continue, I would recommend taking her to your veterinarian.

My pet ( more than 5 kilos) accidentally take 6ml of papi iron plus b complex, (which contains 80 mg of ferrous sulfate per 1ml)... what will happen and should I worry?
480 mg of ferrous sulphate (96-192mg pure/elemental iron) is a significant dose for a dog with 20-60mg/kg body weight being a concern and over 60mg/kg being dangerous. If this was only just eaten, your vet may recommend inducing vomiting followed by medications to bind the iron and reduce absorption. Initial gastroinestinal signs of vomiting and diarrhoea would be expected which should be treated by your vet to prevent dehydration, in severe cases this may progress to shock and liver damage and possibly perforation or permanent scarring of the bowel due to ulcers

Oral toxic dose (dogs) ? ? 20-60 mg/kg of ionizable iron can result in clinical signs. ? >60 mg/kg of ionizable iron can result in serious clinical disease. Because iron poisoning affects the cardiovascular, metabolic, liver, nervous and gastrointestinal systems, many signs are seen. Most often, the gastrointestinal signs present first, since this is the usual route of toxicosis (animals eating iron-containing items). Vomiting ? Diarrhea ? Lethargy ? Gastrointestinal hemorrhage ? Abdominal pain ? Shock ? Tremors Between 6 and 24 hours post-ingestion, some animals may appear to recover, only to get worse. Some animals may see gastrointestinal obstruction as late as 6 weeks post-ingestion due to strictures forming after the massive mucosal injury resulting from the cellular damage from iron.

My dog consumed about 110 mg of iron from hair supplements. Is this an unhealthy amount?
Your dog's daily iron requirement would be approximately 8mg of iron. This means she ingested about 13 times her daily requirement. This should not be a problem as the toxic amount ingested would be more than 60mg/kg body weight, ie , in the case of your dog, around 1000mg. Just make sure she has no more access to your supplement and just keep feeding her her regular good quality food.

My 10 month old beagle ate my iron gel capsules (feroglobin brand).counted it and there were 5missing though components inside were scattered on the floor. What shall i do?
The label you have posted is a little bit fuzzy so I don't know if I am reading it correctly. It looks like it says each tablet has 12mg of iron. If this is the case, assuming your beagle is about 25 pounds, there should probably not be any toxic consequences. Generally speaking, clinical signs do not begin to show until a consumption of approximately 20 mg/kg. In this case, Loki only consumed about 1 mg/kg. If I am not reading the label correctly, this may not be the correct advise. Hope this helps.

My dog is about 20-25 pounds and she accidentally ate my 26mg iron pill. Will she be okay you think?
The quantity ingested is very small. Generally this type intoxication can cause mild to moderate signs, like vomiting, diarrhea sometimes hemorrhagic, lethargy, abdominal pain, shock, panting and tremors. If you notice any of these signs an immediate check up would be required.

My dog may have eaten a 600 mg calcium and 800 is vitamin d3 pill. He is 22 weeks and 14 lbs. What should I do?
This is not a toxic dose for a 15 pound dog. That being said, it could still upset his stomach. He could show signs anytime in the next 48 hours. If he starts to seem sick you should take him to your vet ASAP. I suggest you feed him 1/2 a piece of bread that will help coat the tablet and pull it through his GI tract. No other food for 6 hours. My 75 lb dog ate one iron oxygen packet from a bag of beef jerky. Should I go to the vet to induce vomiting?
The toxicology site I just referenced states that these are low toxicity. The packet itself could cause a foreign body obstruction, but unlikely in a 75# dog. The iron can cause some gastrointestinal upset such as nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea. However they do recommend offering food, water, and or a small amount of milk to help protect the GI tract. True iron toxicity is unlikely with a large dog and 1 packet ingestion. If you notice any of these clinical signs please have him Evaluated by your veterinarian. If you have any concerns that it was More than one packet, or if it was something other than iron then he should also be seen. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.

Hello, this morning my 20lb dog digested a vitamin d3, 5000iu tablet. Should I be concerned I tried to make him throw it up and he wouldn't. Im very concerned, he seems okay.
Hi there! As long as Buddy only ate one tablet, this dose would not be expected to cause any problems. The toxic dose of vitamin D3 in dogs is 100 mcg/kg or above. 5000 IU = 125 mcg, and Buddy weighs about 9 kg, which means he got a total dose of about 14 mcg/kg. This is well below the reported toxic dose, so it's very unlikely that this will be an issue :)

Dog weighing 25 lbs consumed 300-350 IU of Vitamin D, 250mg Calcium and 100 mg of magnesium. Are these toxic levels? I'm most concerned about the Vitamin D and Calcium.
Vitamin D can be toxic at levels above 1800 IU per pound, so Baby will likely suffer no ill effects from 350IU of Vitamin D. The calcium and magnesium doses are also well below toxic doses. You may see a bit of GI upset which can be managed at home with a 12-24 hour fast followed by a bland diet until symptoms resolve.
