Cat hates new cat, won't use litter box. Is her pee pad spot okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | 5 years and 11 months old | 10.5 lbs

Nyx hates male cat that we got 4 months ago. She stopped using litter box(Vet said she is healthy- it’s behavioral- have tried feliway&dr. Elsey’s, etc-none work) Nyx stays on our printer, which is high up. I’m always home w/ her- she eats, bathes, is affectionate, but wont leave printer. We now put pee pads there. She goes every 1-2 days& this seems to work for her. House is tiny- will be moving in 3 months where she will have a lot more room. if she’s happy& comfy, is this ok for her for now?

I know this is not ideal. If you are able to place a litter box up there I would. That way she is still urinating in a litter box at least. When you do have more room, I would create a space just for her. Put 2 litter boxes out for her, give her a place to look outside, places to hide and climb on also. I don't know if your veterinarian performed a urinalysis. If they did then I would think about doing a urine culture. A urinary tract infection does not always show up on blood work and a urine culture will give you an answer. Has your veterinarian prescribed behavioral medication? This may be a good idea for Nyx also.It can take a few weeks for it to fully work but it is something I would think about. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
