My senior cat has a bleeding lump after mat removal. Is it a tumor?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 17 years and 5 months old | 8.6 lbs

I was removing mats from My 17 year old black cat and felt a crusty area. I cleaned the area and comb the hair and the spot began bleeding. It is a solid lump that is pink with a bloody centre about 1/8” long. She is in renal failure. What is it?

It is possible that it is a tumor, and could possibly be infected. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. They may recommend antibiotics and possibly removal. Best of luck and thank you for using Pet Coach.
