How long should I leave a warm compress on my dog's abscess?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | American Pit Bull Terrier | Female | spayed | 4 years and 10 months old | 55 lbs

My dog has an abcess on her neck due to a dog bite. We have been to our vet and received treatment one thing we were told to do is to put a hot compress on it to help it drain. I was wondering how long I should leave the compress on for?

Warm compress for 5-10 minutes twice a day. The goal is to Milk the abscess material out the opening so don’t fret if Misty only puts up with it for a minute or two- that’s still good and still worth doing. Best of luck to you and Misty!
