My dog won't stop chewing. What can I do when I've tried everything?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | 9 years and 7 months old | 6 lbs

My dog, Charlie, won’t stop chewing on things. We have tried everything from training him to not chew to just putting him in a kennel. He simply won’t stop!

I’m sorry to hear about Charlie. Some dogs are just big chewers. Providing lots of chew toys or bones is one option, or if it’s really destructive, try leaving him in a basket muzzle (except for meal times). Finally, if it’s only a problem while you’re gone, kenneling him and talking to your veterinarian about anti-anxiety medication as this can be a sign of separation anxiety. Hope this helps and best of luck to you and Charlie!
