Why is my 11-week puppy twitching while treating kennel cough?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 3 months and 16 days old | 7.5 lbs

Treating 11 week old puppy for kennel cough, and after 3 days he's twitching. No vomiting, no diarrhea, but the twitching might be him trying to cough. Is taking a cough suppressant.

Respiratory disease followed by twitching makes me very concerned about distemper. I would recommend having him examined by a vet to ensure it's not this disease and he is being treated appropriately. Otherwise, twitching could be due to a slight cough, certain medications, or dehydration. Unfortunately, it's not possible to know without seeing him, knowing his full medical history and being able to have a consultation. Your vet will be able to help narrow-down the problem, so I recommend giving them a call first. I hope that helps and Leo gets better soon.
