What OTC eye drops can I use for my dog's allergy eye irritation?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 2 months old | 10 lbs

Lucky just ended his 10 day rx on Prednisolone Acetate Opth. His eyes were a little inflamed due to allergies per the veternarian. Is there anything else we can give him or otc med/eye drop (apart from Benadryl or hydrocortisone) to stop eye irritation now that is rx is done?

Hi there and thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach to address your concern. I would discuss starting an eye drop called Zaditor (ketotifen fumarate) that can help with allergies. This is an over the counter medication and can be safely used in Lucky's eyes for allergies. Again, I would discuss this with your veterinarian first prior to using it. Please let me know if you have any other questions and I would be more than happy to help further!
