My cats are ravenous on their diet. How can I curb their appetite now?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Mediumhair | Male | neutered | 10 months and 18 days old | 10.4 lbs

4 weeks ago, the vet said the boys shouldn't gain anymore weight, both weighed a sliver below 11 pounds. At that time, they were almost 10 months old. Their food was basically cut in half & they've been ravenous. Current intake: 1/4 can wet Friskies for breakfast, 1/4 can wet for dinner. 1/8 cup of dry Blue Buffalo as mid-morning & mid-afternoon snacks. Water is added to all as they drink little. How can their appetites be curbed, and what are filling brands for them to eat? Desperate for help!

What handsome boys! So you have them listed at 8 lbs now. So that suggests to me that they have lost about 2 lbs on the current diet. You are aiming for probably 9 lbs for an average cat. The point is, they need to stop losing weight and either put a little on or at least maintain. Assuming all of those things are true, I’d recommend increasing the food slightly. Say increase one of the meals from 1/8 cup to 1/4 cup. If I’m incorrect and they are at their ideal weight and maintaining on this current diet then a couple ideas: switch to an overweight diet which contains more fiber so you can feed more physical food for the same calories. Or you can consider an automatic feeder to divide the total food into small snacks throughout the day. Best of luck to you and your sweet kitties!
