Are common dog food ingredients like byproducts, BHA, and fats safe?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Cavalier King Charles Spaniel | Female | spayed | 5 years and 7 months old | 17 lbs

So I'm wondering when they say meat and bone meal in certain dog foods, is this an ok ingredient or should it be more specific? Also when they say animal fat or vegetable oil is this ok or should it be more specific? And is BHA and BHT ok, I notice it's in human cereals as well? And are meat byproducts an acceptable ingredient? For example just out of curiosity is pedigree an acceptable brand or is it junk? (I feed Natural Balance) please explain, thanks!

Pedigree is pretty much junk food, as long as the label marks the animal the meat or fat comes from it's fine, if it is not specify it is a good reason to be suspicious. here are a few high quality foods: Orijen, Acana, Evolve and Taste of the wild.
