New puppy not pooping or peeing after being rescued. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Border Collie | Female | 20 lbs

My boyfriend and I recently picked up a stray dog. We could tell she was parched so we gave her some water. When we got home we gave her some food and water but she has yet to poop and pee. She is a puppy but we do not know for sure what age she is. She is also a border collie. Should we be worried about her not using the bathroom??

If she hasn't had anything to eat or drink for a while, it may take some time for her to be ready to poop or pee. As long as she's acting normal and not straining to go to the bathroom, I wouldn't be concerned - she will go when she's ready :)
