Why is my spayed dog's private area red with green discharge?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Parson Russell Terrier | Female | spayed | 11 years and 9 months old

My dogs as red around her private parts but her vagina isn't red but as green puss coming out. It's not hurting her when she urinates, and she don't constantly lick it. She's perfectly fine in herself

Hello, sorry to hear about Willow. This could be associated with an infection or her vagina or lower reproductive tract. Rarely, dogs may develop an infection of her uterine stump which is left after spay surgery. She may require more diagnostics and medications to treat this infection. Your veterinarian may be able to offer further diagnostics including an abdominal ultrasound and bloodwork to rule out a stump pyometra. A cytology of her discharge could also confirm an infection. Hope this helps and best of luck.
