My senior dog's legs give out, she's falling, panting, and in pain.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkipoo | Female | spayed | 5 lbs

My yorkie poodle is 12 years old and 5 pounds. She has congestive heart failure and has been on medication since may. She went to the vet 3 days ago to get blood work done and came back super sore. Today her back legs keep giving out and she keeps falling and yelping/crying in pain. She wont stop panting and shaking. When she stands up it looks like shes going to fall over, as if shes "drunk". She is in a lot of pain but i dont know what it is?

I am so sorry to hear that Holly is going through so much. Often when I see a dog who is acting the way you describe I find that they are painful in the neck or the back. I worry that she may have a slipped disc that may be causing her pain and her instability. I would highly encourage you to have her evaluated by your veterinarian as soon as possible. If there is an emergency veterinarian available tonight then at least she could get some pain medication and be more comfortable until you can see your regular veterinarian. Best of luck and I hope she improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.
