My dog was attacked at the park. How to treat wounds & stop fights?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | French Bulldog | Female | spayed | 8 months and 8 days old | 30 lbs

I took my dog to the dog park a few days ago and she got attacked by another dog. She was underneath this other larger dog the entire time and I had a hard time seeing what was going on. I tried my best to break it up. Harley seemed to be okay when I looked her over before we left. Just this morning I noticed these knicks around Harley's private area. See photos attached. How should I care for the wounds? What's the best way to break up a dog fight in the future? What info should I get?

Hi, thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! Poor Harley! I think the wounds/scrapes are fine to leave alone. They are minor and are already healing. Never try to pull fighting dogs apart, that puts you at risk to get bitten. I would use a garden hose/pour water on them or bang pots (or something else loud) together or wait for them to stop. You can always request the other owners information to get proof of Rabies or if the wounds are severe for a police report or to see if they would compensate Veterinary care. I hope this helps and I'm glad this fight was minor.
