How can I stop my beagle from eating her poop inside the apartment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Beagle | Female | spayed | 3 years and 6 months old | 24 lbs

Our beagle eats her poop and sometimes the cocker spaniel's. She's done this for 3 years now. We don't have a backyard so the dogs poop in the apartment a lot. When the beagle does, she will immediately eat it. We did behavioral training, celebrating and giving her a treat when she poops. We've tried monitoring her with cameras so she can't poop without us catching her. We've managed to stop her for over a week a few times, but the habit remains. We also tried NaturVet's product. Please help!

Unfortunately this is just a gross, bad habit. No medical reason or diet deficiency... I know, not what you wanted to hear! The best thing to do is clean it up immediately and start taking her out on a leash so she is trained to go outside. Then you can lead her away from the contaminated areas I have good success with a product called Forbid. You will have to feed it to both dogs though. It works well however it is not permanent so it will have to be redone periodically
