Got home, my cat is missing fur on both sides of mouth. Both sides have dried blood, whisker is missing, and there is a gash. No wires were bit on and no other pets. What's wrong???

I am sorry to hear that Ziggys face is injured. I would encourage you to look in the mouth to make sure there is no oral wounds. However, based on the picture I would be suspicious that he may have an allergic reaction and rubbed it raw, he could have burned it on the stove or candle, or it could be a chemical contact dermatitis from something he rubbed against. I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian soon. Best of luck and I hope he improves soon. Thank you for using Pet Coach.

Ziggy is a very handsome boy, but I'm sorry he has a wound! It could be he injured himself playing while you were gone, such as cutting his face on something sharp or chewing on something other than a wire. He also could have gotten stuck somewhere in the home, and hurt himself trying to get out. When cats are home alone, they can wiggle into the smallest places. I would gently clean the wounds with warm water and antiseptic soap. Do not put any antibiotic cream on it, as cats typically lick these ointments off and they contain ingredients that are not safe for ingestion. Keep an eye on the wounds, and if they appear red, swollen, warm to the touch, or you see pus, then they are infected and he will need to see a vet for antibiotics. His whisker will grow back, but it will take time. I hope this helps, and thank you for contacting Pet Coach!
